Mark Anderson leads all rookies with 3½ sacks, putting him on pace for a whopping 14. Since the sack became an official statistic in 1982, Brian Urlacher holds the franchise record for a rookie with eight in 2000. Wally Chambers had nine in his first year in 1973.
Anderson collected two against All-Pro Seattle left tackle Walter Jones, recently rated by the Sporting News as the best player in the game at any position.

''That's a good dude,'' Anderson said. ''I'm just proud I got a good opportunity to make some plays on him.''

Defensive tackle Tommie Harris essentially ran Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck into Anderson's waiting arms on one play, but a sack is a sack, and as players know, sacks pay.

''Tommie already knows I owe him for that one,'' Anderson said. ''I'm learning from the best, all the D-linemen.''
He's also helping keep starter Alex Brown fresh by spelling him on certain passing downs.

''We always knew the kid was fast and quick off the ball,'' defensive coordinator Ron Rivera said. ''If you can get a good jump like he has at the snap, you can get upfield, you can get pressure on the quarterback and you can make plays.''
